Jaclyn turned me on to this book, and I was a tad hesitant due to my serious lack of cycling knowledge (would I be able to enjoy a book I may not even understand?).

Fast forward about 100 pages or so: HOLY HELL

Captivating. Simply captivating (am not finished yet, so mark this down as world’s shortest/ most half-assed book review).

New things, old things

Wells is absolutely obsessed with a new roll of wrapping paper I picked up at Target. It was on clearance for 98 cents, but I nabbed it primarily because of the sweet Boston Terrier print. However, he likes carrying it around so much, I may never get a chance to actually use it.
Cleaned out and organized my closet last night, setting aside a bunch of old stuff for a donation to Goodwill
Birthday wishes came true with a new iPhone case and that gorgeous Basquiat that I’ve been coveting
Our sweet old pup is doing just fine post-procedure (we’re waiting on biopsy results)
I’ll be spending the rest of the day running around and packing for a new adventure- visiting old friends and family down in Texas.

Junk mail is so annoying, amiright?

Well yesterday I briefly glanced at a magazine that had arrived, and with a quick narrowing of the eyes, I dismissed it as crap. As I walked across my kitchen to toss it in the trash, the cover photo caught my attention…a beautiful coastline complete with red-topped inn + lighthouse in one of those places on my ‘to travel’ list.

Hmmm…well maybe I would just take a peek.

While Wells sat in his high chair eating salmon and pasta (leftovers!), I sat on an adjacent bar stool, perusing the pages of this glossy read, the pages thick and vibrant. This was not a regular magazine, and definitely not one we subscribe to. A quick glance at the cover indicated that we received it based on Fitz being a rewards member for a specific bank/credit card. Weird, but fine.

“Ohhhhh…OH!” Wells shrieked, pointing to the magazine and smiling. He was entranced by the full-page, scenic landscapes that were unfolding, and his little eyes remained focused as I turned each page. I quickly understood what all the excitement was about- the photos and content were luminous!

I saw one photo of Maine that made me want to book an airline ticket that very minute. I read a fascinating James Beard piece that broadened my understanding of this very cool culinary icon (did you know that you can dine at his townhouse in New York?!). And Wells clapped his hands excitedly when I got to the pages that showed horses roaming around Aspen, and the great Northeast colored in glorious hues of Fall.

Reading this left me brimming with inspiration…for writing, for travel, for dining, and for transporting my imagination on an otherwise cold and rainy Thursday. And to think that I almost threw it away without a second thought…what other things have I missed out on because I judged too quick?

Dog IVs…they exist.
Wells laughs and claps his hands like crazy when I roll out my IT bands. He also LOVES it when I do lunges. World’s tiniest personal trainer?
iPads for everyone in high school? Times have certainly changed since I was a teenager.
After 15 months of breastfeeding Wells (astounded that I made it this far), I have begun the weaning process. It began about a week and a half ago and I imagine he will be fully weaned over the next two-ish weeks. Sad? Yes. Bittersweet? Yes. Proud of myself? YES YES YES. Onto the next chapter (I will do a post on nursing soon).
The bag of frozen peas is really getting a workout lately- on my right knee, on my left knee, and my right shin, specifically. Turn 32 = whole body falls apart
Who watches these Fast & Furious movies???
I saw about 5 minutes of Million Dollar Listing New York, and Fredrik’s high kicks just sucked me right in. Another Bravo show on my DVR? Fitz will be thrilled. Damn you, Fredrik!
